The SE Spain has been one of the historical hotspots of the mining industry in Europe. Quarries are abundant in the Alicante province and examples of succesful restoration approaches can be found close to the University of Alicante. In this field trip we will visit the largest marble mine in use in Europe (La Algueña), a restoration approach base don stability and landscape integration of mine fronts, as well as limestone quarries where techniques of bioengineering, compost application, hydroseeding and planting have been implemented.
